Fuego Tamper
This grippy stainless steel tamper is the one we use most often in our shop. Thanks to its adjustable distance, you can tamp the coffee every time so that it doesn't touch the showerhead and simultaneously prevents water from swirling around on the surface of the puck. Completely independent of who's tamping and even regardless of the grind size!
Its wave-like structure reduces channeling, and you can easily see if something went wrong during extraction.
In everyday use, the Fuego Tamper has proven to be a simple tamper that in most cases leads to a more homogenous extracted result. However, certain coffees achieve a higher sweetness in the cup with our Flash Tamper.

Setting the Distance Correctly
- Weigh the optimal amount of coffee grounds for the used filter and tamp them.
- Insert the portafilter into the machine without extracting.
- Remove the portafilter and check if the puck's surface was damaged during insertion. If this is the case, turn the tamper face further out and repeat the process.
- If the surface is intact, start the extraction.
- After extraction, the puck should no longer contain any water and show a slight imprint of the shower screen and the screw (if present). If no imprint is visible and the surface has been disturbed by the water, turn the tamper face further in and repeat the process.
The goal is for the tamped coffee grounds to be as close to the showerhead as possible when inserted without touching it. Set it once and forget it:-)
